The Friends of the Bargello
Research Fellowship
Our vision to create the FoB Fellowship Fund is multi faceted. By nature, a fellowship program will define the dedication of the Friends of the Bargello as an important hub for the support and promotion of Renaissance arts even beyond that of the Bargello walls. We believe that encouraging on-going research and inquiry within this area of art history helps to promote and support its importance and relevancy. Additionally, the Fellowship offers Donors the opportunity for Legacy giving, and directed gifts in perpetuity.
The spectrum of The FoB Research Fellowship will embrace all aspects of art history reflected in the various and important collections held at the Bargello. Considering the relationship of the Medici and della Rovere with the Bargello, we would welcome project proposals directed toward the history of art collecting and patronage, and its impact on the position of museums today. The Fellowship aims to encourage and support a broad reach of research projects that explore the historiography and impact of the Italian Renaissance in the Modern Era; and will include topics that examine and explore the influences of Italian music, literature, architecture and political thought. We anticipate, in time, that the FoB Fellowship will be an effective portal through which opportunities are granted and the fundamental position of Italy within today’s culture is better understood.
As a reflection of the international support for the Friends of the Bargello is our Council of Academic and Museum Advisors, made up of independent scholars and both curators and directors of many museums throughout America and Europe. This Council will serve as a respected and distinguished selection panel of readers for the fellowship proposals that will be expected once the FoB research fund is functioning. Additionally, this Council will be active contributors to the various seminar series and lectures hosted by the FoB.
